Top Five Most Romantic Cities in Europe

Europe is one of the most beautiful continents in the world, and perfect for exploring with a loved one. From cozy cafes and incredible dining experiences, to ancient history and stunning architecture, many cities and towns in Europe offer the perfect backdrop for a mini break with your better half. Here are five of the most romantic cities in Europe to get you started…

Paris

From the Eiffel Tower twinkling at night, to a cruise on the Seine, to the stunning views from beneath beautiful Montmartre, Paris has the monopoly on romantic locations and is almost always cited as one of the most romantic cities in Europe. The grand architecture lining the beautiful paved streets is the perfect setting for some romantic strolls, while the incredible cuisine makes for a fantastic mini-break. Why not mimic mine and Sam’s first trip abroad together, and wander round the Louvre together, romantic-movie style, followed by hot chocolates and macarons at a nearby bakery?

Barcelona

Another favourite past trip of mine, Barcelona is a vibrant, colourful coastal city in Spain with a lot more to offer than the typical sun and sea package to the costas. Nothing like finger food for a bit of romance, and Barcelona is the king: pull up at a tapas bar in one of the side streets of La Rambla, order a bottle of wine and a few plates, and dig in. Just try not to order everything on the menu! Don’t miss the romantic, winding streets of the Barrio Gotic, and of course the ‘street of the kiss’ Carrer dels Petons. Legend says that men sentenced to death gave a final farewell to their wives here.

Rome

Alongside the Spanish Steps, the Travi Fountain and the jaw-dropping Colosseum, lovers will fall head over heals for the heart-melting views from Villa Pamphili park. The cobbled streets are lined with grand monuments and antique palaces, and come nightfall the restaurants are full of intimate candle-lit tables where couples can share

Lisbon

A city of Gothic cathedrals, ancient monastries, a wonderful laid back temperament and heavenly pastries, this Portuguese beauty facing the Atlantic Ocean is the perfect destination for sweet-toothed lovers. Pull up a chair outside a bar or late-night cafe on a plaza, and your sure to catch some romantic music before long – and maybe even join in the dancing, too.

Vienna

Home of many great classical composers, the grand capital of Austria oozes charm from it’s baroque palaces and grand neoclassical buildings. Vienna is elegant, sophisticated and filled with beautiful parks and fountains, making it the perfect place for a lovers stroll – and one of the most romantic cities in Europe. Stop into one of Vienna’s legendary coffee houses for a truly relaxing experience, or take an intimate river cruise on the Danube.

With so many gorgeously romantic cities in Europe, I know there are plenty of destinations missing from this list. What do you think is the most romantic city in Europe?
